Four children looking over a farm gate into a building with Solidarity Farm founder John Harrison

Solidarity Farm has been supported at an early stage by the Shears Foundation to employ its second member of paid staff, allowing the organisation to support more young people in need and at risk of exclusion through our alternative education program, HAF holiday camps and educational farm visits.

We recognise that a mainstream school setting is not suitable for every child. Some learn better with their hands having practical experience rather than qualifications and grades. We support the children and young people who visit the farm to learn through doing which helps them develop life skills.

We are very grateful to have the support of the Shears Foundation at an early stage in our development and have especially valued the relational approach they adopt and appreciate the fact that they have come to visit us and discuss our plans. It is our hope that we work in partnership with the Foundation for many more years to come, aiming to stretch boundaries and create new opportunities for the young people we seek to serve.
